When things go wrong (with your health)
If you’ve been following me for a while now you will know that I very much use my personal experience combined with my professional knowledge.
I almost feel that I’ve had to go through the struggle, learn what works, have those light bulb moments to be able to pass on my valuable information to you! Does that make sense?
In fact, I’m still learning and evolving as we all are and so it’s definitely a continual process.
One of my biggest moments of clarity (whilst going through the process of recovery) was the knowing that I had to share this knowledge with others. The pull was so strong that it made me embark on a degree in Nutritional Medicine and completely change my career.
If I hadn’t been ill, I wouldn’t be doing this now and I cannot imagine NOT doing this job!
Anyway, I digress!!!
Let’s get to the point of this blog.
When things go wrong!
At the moment I am running my energy accelerator challenge. I LOVE running this event. It is so simple but has the ability to make a significant difference to those I am helping.
And as ever, running this challenge has got me thinking and this time the subject of what to do when things go wrong is currently foremost in my mind!
Why!?
Because so many people in the group are struggling with their energy (AKA their health) and I know why!!!!
Whether I am working with people one to one, in a group, online or at conferences I will always refer back to my 5 pillars – the 5 key areas you need to look at to stay healthy, to lead a healthy life and to correct when your health has taken a knock back.
They are:
1) Sleep
2) Hydration
3) Movement
4) Nutrition
5) Emotions (now this is a big area!!!)
When one or two of these pillars are not supported, I will often see the domino effect.
For example; a person suffers a period of stress, this then effects their sleep, the tiredness means they stop exercising or moving, they lose motivation to prepare to healthy meals and rely on pick me ups and then after a time the whole house of cards comes tumbling down!
Another example; a person gets busy, super busy so they start relying on convenience, they start running around at 100 miles an hour every day, their nutrition is down but their need for nutrients is up, they start getting tired, they put on weight, their mood is effected, then the sleep goes and boom house of cards down again!
And another one; a person becomes a parent, their sleep is disturbed, they no longer put their needs first, they continue to give and give until little cracks start to show, they just don’t feel quite themselves, they have no time for exercise, they make sure the kids eat well but their own nutrition isn’t great, they turn to the wrong food and/or drink to reward or pick them up, they get overwhelmed and finally something gives and the cards come down again!
In each of these examples more than 2 pillars are suffering.
When there’s an imbalance in the pillars it shows itself in many guises, from hormone irregularities, skin flare ups and blood sugar problems to digestive system issues, fatigue, weight gain and mood swings!
I see this all the time in my clinic!
Your body is very good at keeping in balance when one of the pillars is struggling but when the next one falls down then suddenly you have this domino effect and the whole thing collapses.
[Medical Disclaimer Alert: Of course, the first thing you should always do if you have worrying symptoms or feeling ill is to see your GP!]
So, here’s what to do if your house of cards has collapsed!
Look at the 5 areas. Which one(s) do you need to focus on? Do you need to get professional help? What can YOU do to help yourself? Can you be honest with yourself?
I find that the people who come to see me or book on my courses are in a place where they recognise, they need help, support and accountability. Many are in overwhelm and simply do not know where to start.
I know where to start!
One of the main reasons I wrote my Get Back to You Life Saver Plan is that I see so many Mums in overwhelm, putting themselves last and trying to give from an empty cup.
When we complete the wellness wheel as part of the course we can see straight away where the imbalance(s) are present.
We then go in to the 5 pillars and really address each one in an easy and manageable way.
When we know how to balance the pillars, we can stop the house of cards from crashing down by adjusting and tweaking things automatically, without even really thinking about it!
Would you like to be like that?
Sometimes it takes another person to really see you, understand your life and show how to keep the wheels spinning so you can be truly healthy and happy. This is the best part of my job!
Now, I suggest you go look at the 5 pillars and see where you could make positive changes and if you need help then check out my Life Saver Plan. The next course starts on 22nd July 2019.
